  • Ingredients:
    • 1 lb(450g) red cabbage thinly sliced
    • 1 onion (yellow or white) finely chopped
    • 1 bay leaf
    • 1/2 apple peeled, chopped
    • 1+1/4 cup(300ml) red wine (one you like to drink)
    • 2 tablespoons(28g) unsalted butter
    • 2 tablespoon(30ml) olive oil
    • black pepper
    • salt

Simple Red Cabbage Recipe

  • Cook Onions. Put 2 tablespoons(30ml) of olive oil and 2 tablespoons(28g) of unsalted butter into a medium sized pot over medium heat. Add onion and fry onion until onion pieces are soft.
  • Cook Red Cabbage. Add 1 lb(450g) red cabbage (thinly sliced) to pot, stirring onion into the cabbage. Cook cabbage for a few minutes until it looks like the two pictures just below.
  • Prepare Remaining Ingredients. Add the 1+1/4 cup(300ml) red wine, 1 bay leaf, and 1/2 peeled chopped apple. Season with 1/2 teaspoon(3g) salt and 1/2 teaspoon(3g) pepper and cook on low heat for 1 hour, stirring every 10-15 minutes or so to move cabbage from the top to the bottom. The end product will look like the image below on the right. If desired, you can add more salt and pepper at the end.
